Wieland Electric Inc., a leading global manufacturer of innovative electrical interconnect technology, has integrated PROFINET communication into its samos®PRO COMPACT family of programmable safety controllers. The new samosPRO COMPACT module allows machine design engineers to seamlessly integrate non-safe peripheral devices into the program, and to relay controller information back to these devices using PROFINET communication.
The samosPRO COMPACT SP-COP2-ENI base controller enables data exchange between Ethernet-based field devices in a machine or building engineering network. The module is also compatible with Wieland Electric’s free samosPLAN5+ programming software, which provides design engineers with a simple and intuitive interface, powerful simulation tools, and effective troubleshooting and reporting functions.
“The samosPRO COMPACT with PROFINET extends the flexibility of the controller, allowing machine design engineers to implement all of the benefits associated with a complex integrated PROFINET system at a much lower cost,” said Martin Lalonde, application engineer at Wieland Electric. “It also maintains its significant expansion capabilities through the addition of more modules.”
The samosPRO COMPACT SP-COP2-ENI simplifies safety solutions by controlling the safety functions of a wide variety of industrial applications. The compact, 45mm-wide base controller module boasts 16 safe inputs, four safe outputs, and four configurable safe inputs/outputs, with the ability to add modules to achieve as many as 116 safe inputs and 56 safe outputs. Integrated USB and Ethernet interfaces enable system access via industrial Ethernet protocols like Modbus/TCP and PROFINET. Support of other protocols is also possible.
Wieland Electric Inc., a leading global manufacturer of innovative electrical interconnect technology, has developed a series of cable shield terminals designed to provide simple, reliable, cable grounding connections. Designed to accommodate cable diameters from 8mm to 32mm, the fasis WST terminals provide vibration-proof grounding of shielded cables.
Constructed from hardened steel with high corrosion resistance, these durable terminals are available in configurations for mounting on busbars, TS35 DIN rail, C-profile rails, or direct screw-mounting on flat surfaces. The fasis WST Series shielding terminals are ideal for industrial machinery and power equipment that requires grounded cable shields.
“The fasis WST Series shielding terminals deliver low-impedance, large area grounding connections for shielded cables, facilitating immunity from interference in industrial and process networks, for fault-free factory operations,” said Martin Lalonde, application engineer at Wieland Electric. “Their practical design makes the WST ideal for retrofit and new applications. The ease of operation ensures that consistent and reliable ground connections are made during initial factory installations, field maintenance and service work.”
The flare CONTROL P3-L module provides basic phase control (phase sequence, phase position, and phase failure) for voltages from 200 to 500VAC, while the flare CONTROL P3-LTN module delivers advanced control functions, including voltage balance, adjustable time delays, and overvoltage/undervoltage monitoring, as well as accommodates four-wire, three phase systems with a neutral connection. Both modules feature one changeover contact, in addition to multiple LEDs for monitoring and diagnostics.
“An incorrect sequence in motor phases changes the rotational direction of the motor, which could potentially cause catastrophic results. Wieland’s P3-L relays detect phase imbalances before damage can occur,” said Martin Lalonde, application engineer at Wieland Electric. “When a phase imbalance occurs in a three-phase motor circuit, it causes an unequal load, which decreases the power and efficiency of the connected motor, increases the total thermal load on the system, and can lead to motor failure. As such, Wieland’s new P3-L and P3-LTN phase monitors were built to quickly and accurately diagnose these problems, ensuring that the systems they’re designed into continue running properly.”
Wieland’s flare CONTROL P3-L and P3-LTN phase control relays are housed in 22.5mm wide DIN rail modules, and feature screw connections and both (cURus) and CE approvals. Operating temperature for the series spans -20°C to +60°C.
Wieland has expanded its wipos series of DIN rail power supply modules with a new compact design for control cabinet applications. Available in five module sizes, ranging from 32mm x 90mm x 90mm (1.25A) to 95mm x 125mm x 150mm (20A), the power supplies can be connected in parallel or in series, and are rated for operation between -40°C and +70°C (with 100% power at 60°C).
The wipos PS3 Series power supplies are rated for 24VDC/5A to 40A output power, with capability for 120% power boost for 10 seconds, and accept a wide range of input voltages (320 – 576VAC/450 – 810VDC) for worldwide use. Available in four module sizes, ranging from 40mm x 125mm x 122.2mm (5A) to 135mm x 125mm x 180mm (40A), the PS3 Series power supplies are rated for operation between -40°C and +70°C (with 100% power at 60°C). The PS3 supplies can also be powered using only 2 phases and still deliver 100% of their power ratings.
“The new wipos Series power supplies provide design engineers with the proven performance of Wieland’s rugged DIN rail power supply modules in a slim, compact housing,” said Martin Lalonde, Applications Engineer at Wieland Electric. “Rated for Class 1/Div. 2 harsh environments, as well as shipboard installations, the wipos PS1 and PS3 Series power supplies are ideal for a range of challenging applications.”
Wieland’s wipos Series power supply modules feature compensation for voltage drops through the adjustable output voltage.
